Super Typhoon Goring further intensifies while passing over the Balintang Channel as Signal No. 5 is raised over the northeastern portion of Babuyan Island, PAGASA reported.
In the 2 a.m. Tropical Cyclone Bulletin, the weather bureau reported that the center of the eye of Goring was estimated to be over the coastal waters of Calayan , Cagayan packing maximum sustained winds of 195 kilometers per hour near the center, gustiness of up to 240 km/h and moving Northwestward at the speed of 15 km/h.
PAGASA warned that flooding and rain-induced landslides are expected especially in areas highly susceptible to these hazardsand in localities that experienced considerable amounts of rainfall for the past several days. "The enhanced Southwest Monsoon will also bring occasional or monsoon rains over the western portions of Central Luzon, Southern Luzon, and Visayas over the next three days," the agency said.The wind signals warn the public of the general wind threat over an area due to the tropical cyclone. Local winds may be slightly stronger/enhanced in coastal and upland/mountainous areas exposed to winds. Winds are less strong in areas sheltered from the prevailing wind direction.
The enhanced Southwest Monsoon will continue to bring gusty conditions over the following areas not under any Wind Signal, especially in coastal and upland/mountainous areas exposed to winds: Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Zambales, Bataan, Bulacan, Aurora, Metro Manila, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, Bicol Region, and Western VisayasThe weather bureau said a Gale Warning is in effect for the seaboards of Luzon, seaboards of Visayas, and the northern seaboard of Mindanao.
The latest track forecast indicates that the super typhoon will pass over the Balintang Channel in the next 6 hours, close to Babuyan Island and Batan-Sabtang Islands. The super typhoon will be passing through the region at or near its peak intensity.
