Officials from multiple non-profits gathered at Carya Village Commons in the East Village on Tuesday to speak about the adversity they’ve faced in recent years and join the volunteer chamber’s call for funding. Patti Pon, the CEO of Calgary Arts Development, said cracks in the system were present long before the COVID-19 pandemic but they’ve widened over the past few years.

“We’ve received the answer consistently from the government in the past that there is no new money,” she said. “We are hopeful that under this new economic reality of a province with a surplus, that we can find less than one per cent of that surplus to respond to this need.
