It wasn’t until RCMP knocked on her door “minutes after” she got home that Jayme Erickson realized a girl she’d attended to at a car accident was her own 17-year-old daughter, Montana. “Her injures were so horrific I did not even recognize her.'

Critically injured, the girl was taken by STARS air ambulance to Calgary’s Foothills Medical Centre, and Erickson headed home as her shift ended.

The officers took Erickson to the hospital to see her daughter. There, she said medical staff told her that her daughter’s injuries were “not compatible with life.” Montana died in hospital on Nov. 18, three days after the crash. Erickson said Montana’s life was cut far too short and she can’t help but be angry at the short amount of time they were given together.
