Hurricane Lee's project track, as of Sept. 15. SALTWIRE - Allister AaldersLee's impacts to be felt as the storm tracks into Atlantic Canada this weekend | SaltWireSYDNEY, N.S. — Although hurricane Lee will mostly miss Cape Breton when it hits Nova Scotia on Saturday, it will still be a messy weekend.

Eastern Nova Scotia may not be getting the storm’s strongest winds but Aalders said there are still risks with any winds that strong. “While I don’t think power outages will be a huge concern in the forecast for Cape Breton, because the winds will be gusty for such a long period of time, trees are in full-leaf and weakened by past storms like Fiona, there will be more of an increased threat of power outages.”

“It’s likely Cape Breton won’t get into much rain,” Aalders said of the expected rainfall compared to the rest of the province. Because more moisture is concentrated near the storm’s centre, that’s where the heaviest rains are expected to appear. All provincial park campgrounds closed at 1 p.m. Friday, with other parks closing by 7 p.m. Friday for the weekend. Parks will refund existing reservations and remain closed until next week, pending damage inspections. More details are available on Nova Scotia Parks website, parks.novascotia.ca.

The Sydney Sooners’ first two Nova Scotia Senior Baseball League playoff games this weekend in Kentville have been postponed to Sept. 22 and 23.
