“So we had all of the fear and the anger and all of the stuff that goes along with a diagnosis and when her wish came along, it's something that just gives you a little bit of hope. It makes you smile. She had the calendar on the wall and she did her countdown to when we were going and it was exciting for everybody. So it really is something that takes your mind off of everything else that's going on in your life for a little bit when you desperately need it,” said Bennett.
Bennett has teamed up with Cathy Sutherland for the fundraiser, which has challenged 100 women across Canada to each raise $10,000 for a total of $1 million. Boom is right. The campaign kicked off in April and even though they didn’t start until June 4, Bennett and Sutherland soon surpassed $10,000 mark and increased their goal to $25,000, much to Bennett’s surprise.
“Oh, I'm more than confident. We'll just keep going. We're not going to say, ‘Oh, we reached $25,000 and we're stopping — we will keep taking donations for sure,” said Sutherland, who isn’t afraid to admit the campaign has brought out her competitive spirit.
