DAVAO CITY: The cargo vessel MV GY Bella Trix, which ran aground on Friday, May 3, was successfully refloated early Monday, May 6, at Governor Generoso in Davao Oriental.

MV GY Bella Trix, owned by GY Shipping Lines Inc., was traveling from Davao City to Tagoloan, Cagayan de Oro, carrying a cargo of buckwheat with 22 crew members aboard.Philippine Coast Guard Southeastern Mindanao reported that the vessel ran aground at 1 a.m. on Friday off Barangay Lavigan after the ship's master shifted its course to the port side to avoid crashing into a small fishing boat.

After about two hours, the vessel has relocated and dropped its anchor safely in the waters of Sitio Impog, Barangay Lavigan.PCGSEM spokesman Commander Angel Tobias said that there are no signs of oil spill in the surrounding waters, mitigating initial environmental concerns.Tobias said the vessel will be towed to Sta. Ana Anchorage in Davao City where it will remain anchored pending a thorough inspection by the PCG and the Maritime Industry Authority.
