Travellers are scrambling to reach Paris after saboteurs targeted France's rail network
Passengers at the Eurostar terminal at St Pancras station in central London as travellers heading to the Olympics face continued disruption British Olympics fans heading to Paris may miss the events they had booked and lose hundreds of pounds they paid for tickets after arson attacks on France’s railway network left them stranded.Andy Smith, 45, was due to travel to Paris with his partner, Annie Glennie, 44, and their two daughters, aged seven and three, on Sunday morning.
“Basically, we’re going as a family of four with seven and three-year-old girls to show them some female Olympians, and now it looks like we’re not.” Katie Hume , left, and her fiancée, Becky White, spent a stressful Friday evening trying to book onto a new train after their Eurostar was cancelled “It’s quite frustrating to get to the last second and then be like: ‘No, can’t do it,” he said. “I looked at other transport options, but anything other than flights wasn’t really an option. I don’t like taking really short flights and the whole point of the Eurostar has been it goes from London to Paris.
“I started looking at flying options. London airports sold out completely and I think I saw the price almost double within the hour,” Ms Hume said.“Started looking at Manchester Airport and they wanted £900 return for two people – nearly as much as our entire trip cost. We were just about to book the Manchester Airport flights when we managed to get booked on another train.”
