Mark Hoyles has all but given up hope of rebuilding his cabin, now likely fully submerged beneath the western Newfoundland pond. There are still no answers as to why water levels continue to rise.

In March 2019 the roof of Mark Hoyles’ cabin was still above water on Bottomless Pond. By June 2021 only a bit of the peak could be seen. - ContributedIn January 2018, a heavy rainstorm caused flooding around the west coast and Bottomless Pond started to rise. But by June 2018, it was clear that something was wrong. Water levels continued to rise and water started getting into the cabins located on the Crown Land around the pond.Hoyles' cabin and his brother’s, which was located right next door, were pushed off their foundations and set adrift, ending up on the other side of the pond.In September 2019, the province released the cabin owners from their Crown Land leases.
