TUGUEGARAO CITY — The Batanes provincial government has declared a state of calamity on Tuesday evening, following the onslaught of Typhoon Julian.

Gov. Marilou Cayco has appealed for help such as food, drinking water, construction facilities and other supplies as rapid disaster assessment reports in Batanes showed that 6,854 families or 21,398 people were affected by the typhoon.Fifty-one families or 163 people remain at evacuation centers. Nine families stayed with their relatives or neighbors.Disaster management data also said 68 families or 231 people were rescued. At least 2,463 houses were partially or totally damaged.

Aid for Typhoon Julian-hit families reaches P9MThe Department of Social Welfare and Development has already released more than P9 million in humanitarian aid for families affected by Super Typhoon Julian.'The DSWD has already provided P9.078 million in relief aid to the Ilocos and Cagayan Valley Regions as well as to the Cordillera Administrative Region,' DSWD Assistant Secretary for External Assistance and Development Juan Carlo Marquez said on Wednesday.
