Stamps' Dickenson follows 'good model' in first off-season as GM Stampeders CFL
Certainly it’s been different for the longtime Stamps head coach, who doubled up his duties in December when he took control of GM responsibilities from guru John Hufnagel.
“I’ve got a good model to follow,” said Dickenson of the legacy of success left by Hufnagel. “But I really wasn’t privy to that stuff before. Now I’m actually seeing the numbers and talking to the agents and having a little feedback, back and forth. I feel like that’s good for me. It helps me kind of understand where everyone’s coming from.”
“We want to try and sign as many guys back as possible,” Dickenson said. “The reason for that is we feel we had a good team — it felt like we were growing and we were young with good chemistry, so I want to try and keep that. Dickenson says he’s talking with Thurman’s agent and in negotiation with Jorden, at the very least, but — obviously — wouldn’t divulge all the details of his conversations with players he wants to re-sign.
One major reason for that is the bump up in the CFL’s minimum salary — to $70,000 annually from $65,000.
