While other nurses in Ontario received $5,000, nurse practitioners didn’t receive money until December
Nurse practitioners and nurses who work in their clinics - including those at the Algoma Nurse Practitioner-Led Clinic - have finally received their retention pay from the Ontario government.
The government announced in March 2022 that $763 million would be given to eligible Ontario nurses in two installments of $2,500 for a total of $5,000 per nurse as a pandemic recovery measure. “They feel disrespected,” said France Gelinas, Nickel Belt MPP and NDP health critic speaking to SooToday in November.
“It has been received and paid out,” confirmed Ashley Gearing, Algoma Nurse Practitioner-Led Clinic human resources administrator on Monday.
