PJ Panday Bayanihan Partylist's first nominee Brian Poe reaffirmed his support to the country's sports development programs that encourage youth participation. Poe made the commitment during the Zeus Combat League 2 Supremacy, where FPJ Panday Bayanihan served as one of the sponsors of the event.
'Sports can serve as an outlet for young people, where they learn valuable life lessons and other essential skills reducing their vulnerability to harmful social influences. It helps promote the values of unity, resilience, and teamwork, which the youth can apply in other aspects of their daily life,' Poe said. Zeus Combat League hosted the competition at SM North Skydome last October 26. It aimed to raise the profile of mixed martial arts in the Philippines, featuring fighters demonstrating skill, resilience, and commitment. With a new CEO at its helm, Rocco Nacino, ZCL seeks to focus on world-class promotion and professional development of FIlipino MMA fighters that can represent the Philippines on the world stage. Poe, a former athlete, said that the sports sector, including private initiatives, needs additional attention and support to boost and increase the chances for youth to participate in various sports programs. 'This is more than just competition. It's about the power of community of coming together to provide opportunities to our young athletes and keeping them focused and out of trouble through discipline and training,' he added. Joko Silverio, fighter coach of the MMA team from Bulacan was happy with the support committed by the FPJ Panday Partylist because it is what the Filipino athletes needed.'It will be a big help to the struggling Filipino athletes,' Silverio said.Silverio is the coach of Annie Parungao of Bulacan who won the gold medal in the Asian Mixed Martial Arts event held in Cambodia in June 2024. Parungao also bagged the bronze in the AMMA Philippines competition held last month.Silverio said one of the main problems of the athletes is funding for their transportation allowance and supplements in their diet.Same with Enrico Esteban, founder of AE Skill Basketball based in Bulacan who handled basketball trainings for at least 500 boy and girl students aged 17 below. He added that what they usually need during training are venues and basic needs of the players. It was learned that some of his trainees were now playing in the Manny Pacquiao Basketball League others were included in Palarong Pambansa.FPJ Panday Bayanihan Partylist has been helping grow the sports industry and giving second chances to young people through scholarships and other programs such as Ang Liga and FPJ Cup.
