The festive season weekend has already proved deadly with six people killed on New South Wales roads in 48 hours. The spate of fatal accidents has sparked NSW Police to call on motorists to be careful over the Christmas and New Year period. 9News
The front seat passenger of the Holden station wagon died at the scene.The 56-year-old driver was uninjured but was taken to hospital for mandatory testing.Earlier yesterday, a 95-year-old woman was fatally struck at the intersection of Lopez Lane and Raymond Street in Bankstown around 3.30pm.
The 66-year-old male driver of the car, who's licence has now been suspended, has been charged with dangerous driving occasioning death and negligent driving occasioning death.At 5.35am yesterday, a 56-year-old man was killed after his silver sedan left the road and crashed into a tree at Rand, 70km north of Albury.
"We urge people to think about others as you get behind the wheel. Irresponsible behaviour – including speeding, driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and using your mobile phone while driving – can drastically alter your own or another road user's life," Assistant Commissioner Brett McFadden said.
"We all want to enjoy this festive season and by being a responsible road user, you are helping others to reach their destination safely and reduce road trauma."
