Fiona was an incredibly severe storm, and it takes time to rebuild our infrastructure . But the King government has been slow off the mark to provide even the most basic relief to residents. It took the government six full days after the storm hit to announce co-ordinated relief efforts with the Canadian Red Cross. And even then, residents who initially called to access supports were initially told by the Red Cross that they had no information, including when might receive assistance.
And 10 days after the storm, some residents still have little to no cell reception with very little communications from the telecoms, with the exception of Bell who at least provided some updates to this newspaper this week. And yet, the premier hasn’t spoken up for people by asking the telecoms to be transparent with customers.
