Two siblings graduated with honors from Ateneo de Manila University, where their parents have been working as janitors.
According to Jonathan Andal's report on "24 Oras Weekend," Sunday, Rica and her older brother Riel Gutierrez both graduated cum laude from Ateneo."Lahat sila alam nila na janitor 'yung mga magulang ko. Hindi ko po iyon kinakahiya eh," Rica said.
Because their parents, Ricky and Elma, are employees of Ateneo, the siblings enjoyed free tuition that reaches around P80,000 per semester. The siblings also received P15,000 allowance per sem from the university. Aside from this, they also got some donations from those they helped while working as janitors.
"Dumating kami sa punto na, dalawang itlog hati-hati kaming mag-iina. mairaos lang 'yung pangkain," she added.
