Looking for a brand-new RAV4 Hybrid? Be prepared to wait. According to some authorized Toyota dealerships, some variants of the compact SUV is facing a waiting time of “up to one year.” And a recent announcement by Toyota Motor Corporation isn’t going to help either.
The world’s largest carmaker has announced a fresh round of production cuts in July as parts shortages continue to hinder their ability to produce new cars.They believe that they will be able to produce about 850,000 units per month from July to September with a total production of about 9.7 million for its current fiscal year.
At its Japan plants alone, a COVID-19 outbreak at one of its suppliers has led Toyota to extend the production suspension that’s already in place there. In total, it will affect 11 lines in 7 plants out of 28 lines in 14 plants. Heavily affected models that’s on sale in the Philippine market include the Motomachi Plant that produces the GR Yaris and Lexus LC and the Takaoka Plant that produces the RAV4 .
Toyota says it’s difficult to look ahead, production-wise, due to the shortage of parts. They are emphasizing that there’s a possibility that the production plan may be revised even lower. However, they will examine their parts supply closely to minimize the sudden decrease in production and to deliver cars to as many customers at the earliest date.
