Ignoring public criticisms hurled against politicians getting COVID-19 test priority, a congressman demanded that members of the House of Representatives and employees of the chamber should be first in the line for such testing.

Clearly surprised by the request made during a virtual hearing of the Health Cluster of the House Defeat COVID-19 Committee, neither officials of the Department of Health and the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation failed to respond directly to Senior Citizen Partylist Rep. Francisco Datol Jr.

HB 6707 seeks a government protocol for the conduct of Baseline Polymerase Chain Reaction Testing for COVID-19 by making it more “available, affordable and accessible” to Filipinos. He pointed out that until they are tested, there is no guarantee that 25 congressmen allowed to be physically present during virtual plenary sessions are not infected of the virus.

However, they agreed to the solon’s proposal that senior citizens should always be priority in any COVID-19 testing program and that the DOH must make good its promise to distribute medicines to boost the immune system of the elderly.
