The Flames finally spoiled Andrei Vasilevskiy’s shutout bid in Thursday’s third period at Amalie Arena.
With that deflating dent, any hope of a dramatic comeback was squashed. The Tampa Bay Lightning cruised from there to a 4-1 victory, sealed by an empty-netter.
Elias Lindholm had just potted a power-play goal at the opposite end of the rink, thanks in part to a screen from Nazem Kadri. That turned out to be the lone tally for the Flames, who fired 40 shots on Vasilevskiy’s net but didn’t exactly rack up Grade A opportunities. It’s fair to wonder whether it will be Markstrom or Dan Vladar in the crease for Saturday’s clash against Matthew Tkachuk and the Florida Panthers.
