Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) continues its commitment to Filipino athletes by sponsoring three major grassroots basketball events in the Philippines.
Smart Communications , Inc. (Smart), a leading mobile services provider in the Philippines, is reaffirming its dedication to Filipino athletes by continuing its support for three prominent grassroots basketball events this quarter. Smart will be livestreaming the Universities and Colleges Athletic League ( UCAL ) starting in January on its Smart Sports Facebook Page, enabling fans and students to cheer for their teams online.
Additionally, Smart is sponsoring the National Basketball Training Center (NBTC) League for another year. This league features regional and national basketball tournaments for high school grassroots teams, commencing this month and running until April. The NBTC has served as a launching pad for numerous notable basketball players, including Jalen Green of the Houston Rockets, Kai Sotto of Gilas Pilipinas, Kamaka Hepa, Kihei Clark, Jeron Artest, Kai Ballungay, Jared Bahay, and Kieffer Alas, who all made their mark on the competition in previous years. In recognition of the burgeoning women's basketball community, Smart is also backing the Manila Hustle 3x3 for the third time in February. 'This aligns with our commitment and belief that sports inspire nation-building,' said Jude Turcuato, FVP and Head of Sports at PLDT and Smart. 'By supporting tournaments that provide young athletes with the opportunity to exhibit their skills and enhance the basketball experience for fans, we can drive positive development in this beloved sport among Filipinos.' Sports enthusiasts can enjoy their favorite tournaments and highlights for free on the Smart Sports and Puso Pilipinas Facebook and YouTube pages. Smart's efforts to deliver relevant mobile data services and platforms to Filipinos are in sync with the PLDT Group's mission to bridge the digital divide and extend connectivity to all, contributing to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDG), particularly SDG No. 9 – Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure
