Smart Communications, the wireless arm of industry giant PLDT, provides free telco services to Filipinos affected by the Sri Lanka conflict.
FREE telco services for Smart customers in Sri LankaIn a statement, the company said customers who are subscribed to its roaming services would get free 1GB GigaRoam data roaming access valid for five days. Smart said this would allow them to reach out to their families, friends, and Philippine government agencies.
We are monitoring the situation in Sri Lanka and are ready to aid our kababayans. Access to communication and information during this time of crisis is of extreme importance. We are also praying for their safety, said Francis E. Flores, SVP and Head of Consumer Business Group – Individual at Smart.Its postpaid subscribers, in addition, will get free 15 roaming SMS and an additional 15 minutes of calls via bill refund that they can use for emergencies.
To access these services, they must turn on their phones and connect to Smart’s network partners Dialog or SLT Mobitel. Further instructions will be given through a text message.Smart also extended load assistance during Afghanistan, Myanmar, and Ukraine crises.
