The FDA has approved the emergency use of China’s Sinovac COVID-19 vaccine for children as young as 6 years old. | dpazzibuganINQ /PDI
The FDA also approved the vaccine as “a third dose at least six months after completion of the primary course of 2 doses,” but this was so far only for health workers, seniors and adults with comorbidities.
“With the approved amendment, we have another source of pediatric vaccines. Many parents also seem to prefer Sinovac [for their children] since it is an inactivated vaccine, although all the approved vaccines are effective and of quality,” Duque said. The FDA also approved Sinovac’s request to extend the approved shelf life of its vaccines to six months.
Last week’s average daily cases were 35 percent lower than the previous week’s figures, the DOH said.
