“The DICT emphasizes that there will be no extension for the deadline, and strict implementation will be in effect,” DICT said in a statement issued on April 9.The department also warned that “failure to register will result in the deactivation of SIM cards, rendering them unusable for voice calls, text messaging, and mobile data services.”
Citing the latest numbers released by major Public Telecommunication Entities – DITO Telecommunication Corp., Globe Telecom Inc., and Smart Communications Inc. DICT noted that the number of registered SIMs as of April 7 are as follows: DITO – 4,711,456; Globe – 26,348,304; and SMART –31,110,508. “While the progress in SIM card registration has been encouraging, we must not lose momentum,” said DICT Secretary Ivan John Uy said.
