THE low pressure area off Aurora has turned into a tropical depression named 'Maymay' as Signal No. 1 was raised over at least six Luzon provinces, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said on Tuesday.Weather specialist Aldczar Aurelio said the storm alert was up over Isabela, Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya, Aurora, Nueva Ecija, and the extreme northern portion of Quezon , including Pollilo Islands.

Maintaining its category in the next 48 hours, the Pagasa weatherman said there is the possibility that Maymay may be downgraded into an LPA as it crosses Central Luzon.Meanwhile, another tropical depression outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility was located some 1, 730kms east of Eastern Visayas while moving north-northweastward at 35kph, he said.It has maximum sustained winds of 45kph and gustiness of up to 55kph, the weather bureau said.
