Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 is still hoisted over three areas in Luzon as Tropical Depression ObetPH moved towards Luzon Strait, state weather bureau PAGASA said on Friday.
Babuyan IslandsPAGASA said from Friday to early Saturday morning, moderate to heavy with at times intense rains are expected over Batanes, Babuyan Islands, northern portions of Ilocos Norte, Apayao, and mainland Cagayan.
Light to moderate with at times heavy rains, meanwhile, may be experienced over the rest of Cagayan, Apayao, and Ilocos Norte. “Under these conditions, flooding and rain-induced landslides are likely, especially in areas that are highly or very highly susceptible to these hazard as identified in hazard maps and in localities with significant antecedent rainfall,” PAGASA warned.
Obet was last spotted at 235 kilometers east of Basco, Batanes, packing maximum sustained winds of 45 km per hour and gustiness of up to 55 km/h while moving westward at 30 km/h. The tropical depression may pass over or very close to the Batanes-Babuyan Islands area between Friday afternoon or evening, PAGASA said."OBET is forecast to gradually intensify and may reach tropical storm category between tonight and tomorrow morning, although the possibility of a slightly earlier intensification to tropical storm category is not ruled out," PAGASA said.
