BAGUIO CITY – A 61-year-old man died and 11 families or 53 individuals were displaced in a fire that hit seven houses on Gaerlan St. in Barangay Campo Filipino here on Tuesday morning, August 27.
Baguio fire marshal Fire Supt. Hernandez Odiver said that the fire spread quickly as the houses were made of light materials.The fire started at 6:55 a.m. and put out at 8:12 a.m.
Liza Bulayungan, head of the Office of the City Social Welfare and Development , said assistance has been provided for victims – P158,000 cash from the city government, P10,000 food assistance, and P12,900 non-food assistance. Victims also received P120,000 in financial assistance, P64,688 food assistance, and P88,872 non-food assistance from the Department of Social Welfare and Development-Cordillera and individual donations composed of P16,977 non-food assistance, P25,715 food assistance, and P50,000 cash.
Mayor Benjamin Magalong here thanked responding firefighters. Arson investigators have yet to determine the cause of the fire.
