FIDE Master Sander Severino downed fellow FM Ilia Lipilin to maintain his share of the lead after eight rounds in the International Physically Disabled Chess Association World Championship at the Black Fortress in Gyumri, Armenia on Friday, July 26.
The win improved Severino to 6.5 points on five wins and three draws and tightened his grip of the top spot along with Kazakhstan’s Ayapov Alimzhan, who edged Marcin Molenda of Poland.
Sargis Sargissyan of host Armenia trailed half a point behind with 6 points after toppling Filipino bt Henry Lopez. place as he remained with 5 points on four wins, two draws and two losses. places with 5.5 points -- one full point behind Severino and Alimzhan -- after outplaying Artem Anfinogenov.
