A fatal accident involving a bus, truck, trailer, and two cars resulted in seven deaths, including a two-year-old child, on the North-South Highway in Malaysia.
Seven deaths including a two-year-old boy were recorded in a five-vehicle accident on the North-South Highway, heading north, at kilometer 204 last night, December 23. According to Harian Metro reports, the accident, which occurred at 8:40 p.m., involved a express bus, a foton truck, a trailer, a Toyota Estima MPV, and a Perodua Bezza.
According to Alor Gajah District Police Chief, Superintendent Ashari Abu Samah, initial investigations found that a truck and a bus, each driven by a 31 and 56-year-old man respectively, were traveling from the north to the south. 'The accident occurred when the bus, upon arriving at the scene, hit a tire and lost control before veering into the oncoming lane. 'Upon veering into the oncoming lane, the bus collided with the Perodua Bezza, causing the car to swerve into the left lane and hit the road divider. The bus then collided with a trailer and a Toyota Estima carrying a family of eight,' he said. As a result of the accident, the bus driver and a passenger, as well as the driver and four passengers of the Toyota Estima, died at the scene. It is understood that the bodies of all the victims were taken to the Forensic Department of Melaka Hospital for autopsy. 'All the vehicles involved were seized to be brought to Puspakom (Computerized Vehicle Inspection Center) for vehicle inspection.' The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987,' he said. As of now, five victims who have been identified are the bus driver, Noorisnien Khamid, 56, from Skudai, Johor; the Estima driver, Khairul Ikhwan Mazupi, his wife, Fadzlenna Ramli, 32; father-in-law, Ramli Ab Wahab, 66; and his youngest son, Muhammad Umar Khairul Ikhwan, 2.Meanwhile, the identity of a bus passenger and two Estima passengers who died is still unknown
