The number of pediatric beds in Surrey has dropped from 24 to 16 in the last two decades, according to the report. Surrey’s population is growing by 1,200 to 1,400 people a month, and is expected to surpass Vancouver’s soon and hit 700,000 by 2031, the report said. “All health authorities within B.C. have a similar network of hospitals in which specific designated hospitals are considered higher level of care for various specialized services, including stroke, trauma, cardiac and specialty pediatric services,” said Amory Wong, a senior communications consultant for the Fraser Health Authority.
