Bong Go on Sunday raised the importance of investing in Filipino athletes' development, not just for competition but for nation-building.The senator, in a statement, sought continued government funding for grassroots sports programs and Filipino athletes.Go urged the government to 'prioritize sports engagement among citizens, not only for elite athletes but also for aspiring youth athletes, especially at the grassroots.
'He underscored the need to cultivate young talents through community sports activities. He sees sports as a 'means to keep youth engaged and away from harmful activities.''As I always remind our youth, get into sports, stay away from illegal drugs to keep us healthy and fit,' Go said.Go said that through his efforts, the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) has allocated funds to promote community sports tournaments this year.The PSC wanted to ensure that aspiring athletes from various sectors have access to opportunities and resources.'These initiatives aim to create an environment where sports serve as a tool for health, discipline, and camaraderie,' Go said.He helped create the National Academy of Sports (NAS), established through Republic Act 11470, which he co-authored and sponsored in the Senate.Located in New Clark City, Capas, Tarlac, the NAS offers a 'unique blend of secondary education and a sports-focused curriculum, providing student-athletes with the foundation they need to excel in academics and sports,' he said
