MANILA, Philippines: The Senate and the House of Representatives convened on Saturday morning for a special session and passed two resolutions: Senate Resolution 15 to invite Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida to address the joint session of the Senate and the House of Representatives, and Senate Resolution 17 to convene the joint session.
The special session lasted for 17 minutes, after which the senators led by Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri proceeded to the House of Representatives at the Batasan Complex for the joint session to hear the address of Kishida at 11a.m.Zubiri personally invited Kishida when he and some senators visited Tokyo in April this year.'We are honored that the good Prime Minister accepted our invitation for him to address the Filipino people through Congress,' Zubiri said.
Seventeen senators will attend the joint session -- Zubiri, Senate President Pro Tempore Lorna Regina 'Loren' Legarda, Majority Leader Emmanuel 'Joel' Villanueva, Minority Leader Aquilino 'Koko' Pimentel 3rd and Senators Cynthia Villar, Mark Villar, Ramon 'Bong' Revilla Jr.
