The Senate will only have one sitting week to study and vote on Bill C\u002D39 before the deadline of March 17 2023.

Bill C-39 – which seeks to delay the expiration of the expansion by one year, until March 17 2024 – was passed unanimously by the House of Commons on Wednesday. The Senate has agreed to consider the matter in committee on March 8 and will be questioning Lametti and Minister of Health Jean-Yves Duclos at that time on the legislation. But opposition parties said in December that the time limit was coming up too fast, and called on the federal government to add an additional extension which it finally agreed to do.
