Premier Doug Ford called the vote Wednesday to choose an MPP to succeed former NDP leader Andrea Horwath, who retired last Aug. 15.
The front-runner is New Democratic candidate Sarah Jama, who has been campaigning since last November.
It will be the first electoral test for newly anointed NDP Leader Marit Stiles, who has already been on the hustings in the downtown Hamilton riding.The Liberal standard-bearer will be activist Deirdre Pike, who ran for the party in 2018 against Horwath, who had held the seat since 2004.
