Bong Go, chairman of the Senate Committee on Health and Demography, lauded the Senate's approval of a bill calling for the creation of a general hospital in Lucena City.House Bill 8214, which seeks to establish a general hospital in Lucena City under the Department of Health (DOH), aims to bring critical health services closer to communities in the region.The Lucena City Hospital bill passed its third and final reading on Dec. 16.
As the measure's principal sponsor, Senator Go highlighted its importance in enhancing health care access for residents of Lucena City, Quezon province, and the surrounding areas.It also aligns with the Universal Health Care Act to ensure accessible, quality health care for Filipinos.The approval of the bill is another step toward better and more affordable health services for our fellow citizens. If enacted, it will provide closer medical services to the people of Quezon and nearby areas, said Go.The proposed facility will reduce the need for patients to travel long distances to access quality health care, particularly for those requiring urgent or specialized treatment.'We know how difficult it is when the hospital is far away, especially in emergencies. There should be no families worrying about where to take their loved ones when they need them,' added Go.The senator emphasized that the new hospital will improve health care access and enhance the local health care system by creating jobs for medical professionals and supporting staff.'It will also help our health care workers have opportunities in their profession without having to leave their families,' he noted.Under the bill, the hospital will be funded through the annual General Appropriations Act and will operate under the direct supervision of the Department of Health (DOH).A development plan aligned with national health reform initiatives will guide future expansions, including increases in bed capacity, facilities and personne
