Senator Cynthia Villar has opposed the call to again put Metro Manila under the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ), saying that such a move will again endanger the country’s economy and the employment of Filipinos.

Doctors and medical groups appealed on Saturday to place anew the country’s capital region under the strictest community quarantine for two weeks as they lamented the growing exhaustion among health workers amid the rising number of COVID-19 patients being admitted in hospitals.

“Hindi buong Metro Manila ila-lockdown. Kasi pag ganon, eh magsa-suffer talaga ang ekonomiya natin. At pag nagsuffer ang ekonomiya natin, dadami ang unemployed, magkakaproblema tayo, maraming magugutom. Pati yung ayng pagtatransport ng pagkain apektado ,” she said. The Department of Health and the entire government should also be pushed to beef up its efforts to control the spread of the disease and respond to the needs of the health workers, she added.

“At the same time that we are developing our economy, we have to develop our health facilities also.”“May time in our lives na ikaw talaga ang mapapagod. Iba-iba naman ang kalamidad, ‘di ba. So itong kalamidad na ito ang mapapagod dito ang mga doctors natin, ‘yong mga health frontliners natin. Iba-iba ‘yan, eh, but I guess we have to work hard ,” said the senator.
