Sinabi ni Senador Sonny Angara na bukas siyang tanggapin na maging kalihim ng Department of Education (DepEd) kung aalukin ni Pangulong Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr.
"Opo. Open naman ho tayo kung sakaling pinagkatiwalaan," sabi ni Angara sa ambush interview sa selebrasyon ng Philippine-Spanish Friendship Day sa Baler, Aurora."Let's see if the president needs us, and you know, we'd like to help him also. We're helping him in the Senate. So, if we can help him in other ways, why not?" dagdag niya."Wala pa pong alok na maging kalihim po tayo ng edukasyon.
Kabilang ang pangalan ni Angara sa mga lumutang na posibleng pinagpipilian na hahalili sa binakanteng posisyon ni Vice President Sara Duterte. Huling termino na si Angara bilang senador sa June 2025. Suportado naman ng ilang senador si Angara na maging DepEd Secretary, kabilang si Senate President Francis"Chiz" Escudero.
Ayon kay Angara, isa sa mga commissioner ng Second Congressional Commission on Education at naging chairman ng House Committee on Higher and Technical Education noong kongresista pa, kabilang sa mga dapat tutukan ng susunod ng kalihim ng DepEd ang itaas ang kalidad ng edukasyon, at problema pa rin sa kakulangan ng mga silid-aralan at libro.
