Following US President Donald Trump's inauguration and his subsequent reversal of asylum policies, a surge of migrants are seeking refuge in Mexico, leaving their dreams of entering the United States in limbo. Many are forced to wait in long queues at Mexican refugee agency offices, hoping to begin the asylum process. Their stories highlight the human impact of Trump's restrictive immigration policies, leaving them facing uncertainty and hardship as they navigate a new reality.

After US President Donald Trump reversed his predecessor Joe Biden's policies on asylum seekers, many migrants hoping to reach the United States now find themselves seeking refuge in Mexico . Arianne Dominguez, a 24-year-old Cuban, arrived in Mexico shortly before Trump's inauguration and was disappointed when he halted access to the CBP One app, a tool used by migrants to schedule appointments with US authorities.

Dominguez, like many others, had her hopes of gaining asylum in the US dashed by Trump's restrictive policies. She now joins hundreds of other migrants seeking assistance from the Mexican Commission for Refugee Assistance (COMAR) in Mexico City and its surrounding areas. Waiting times at COMAR offices in Mexico have surged, with migrants forming long queues, sometimes for days, hoping to begin the asylum process. Many, like Juan Carmona, a 50-year-old Venezuelan mechanic, are choosing to stay in Mexico while they await a decision on their asylum applications. Carmona and his wife decided to make Mexico their temporary home, hoping to secure legal residency and build a new life in the country.Trump's declaration of a national emergency at the US-Mexico border and his vow to deport millions of migrants have significantly impacted the lives of those seeking a better future in the US. The reinstatement of the 'Remain in Mexico' policy, which requires asylum seekers to wait in Mexico while their applications are processed, has further compounded their difficulties. Meanwhile, the halting of a program that granted asylum to people fleeing authoritarian regimes in Central and South America has left thousands stranded on the Mexican side of the border, facing uncertainty and hardship. Shakira Chaparro, a 29-year-old Venezuelan waiting in Tijuana, acknowledges the dangers of crossing the border illegally and sees staying in Mexico as the safer option. She hopes to find a legal way to remain in the country for a while or eventually return to Venezuela

Trump Seeks to Delay Sentencing in Hush Money CaseTrump Seeks to Delay Sentencing in Hush Money CaseFormer US President Donald Trump is making a last-ditch effort to delay his sentencing in the hush money case. He filed an appeal to a state court, hoping to overturn a lower court ruling that set the sentencing for January 10, just days before Trump's inauguration. Trump's legal team argues that a pre-inauguration sentencing would violate presidential immunity and needs to be halted. The case stems from a $130,000 payment made by Trump's former lawyer to adult film actress Stormy Daniels to prevent her from disclosing an alleged sexual encounter with Trump before the 2016 election.
