We asked three Canadians who took part in Take Our Kid to Work Day as youths to look back on the experience

“It can be kind of mystical – like you don’t know exactly what they do. You don’t really have any idea of what work actually looks like, even though you’re going to school to prepare yourself to work for the rest of your adult life,” she laughed. “I just loved it and it reaffirmed what I wanted to do. I eventually ended up getting hired by them,” Ms. Sutton said.

She ended up choosing a college program based on her experience on that day, and had a 14-year career in journalism before moving into communications., says his experience helped shape his current approach to entrepreneurship. Mr. Alexis said the day is also a great way to bring families together, and help kids get a better appreciation for what their parents do.Ms. Paris said that a big part of her job now is to build relationships, get to know people and network.
