The No. 2 overall pick not only put Barangay Ginebra to sleep but also ended a long nightmare for Blackwater as the Bossing snapped a five-year drought against the Kings, 95-88, in the PBA Season 49 Governors’ Cup at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium on Friday, Aug. 30.

Aug 30, 2024 02:19 PMSedrick Barefield hit the ‘"night, night" celebration as he walked down the court after drilling a dagger four-pointer.

It was Blackwater’s first victory against Ginebra since 2019 when the then Ray Parks-led Elite upset the Kings, 108-107, in the Philippine Cup. The Bossing franchise lost all of their next nine games against Ginebra from thereon. King introduced himself in style and exploded for 33 points to go with 19 rebounds as he, no doubt, overcame his baptism of fire after holding his own against the barometer of all imports in the Kings resident import Justin Brownlee.

And that was largely behind the collective effort from the Bossing who embarked on a huge third quarter showing where they outscored the Kings, 31-20, with the Blackwater import pouring in 14 of his total output during that stretch.
