THE Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) have formalized an agreement to streamline the business registration process for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

Under the agreement, the DTI will facilitate the sharing of corporate data through the SEC 's Swift Corporate and Other Records Exchange Protocol .
The agreement will enhance DTI's mandate to regulate sole proprietorship transactions. It will also allow SEC to access business entity names or trademark registries via the application programming interface of its business entity name registration system . The BNRS ensures no business names will be used or registered if these are identical, deceptively or confusingly similar, and not distinguishable from those already reserved or registered by another entity.
