The Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center concluded the four-day 56th Council meeting on May 9, 2024, with a focus on combating illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing and ensuring the sustainable development of fisheries and aquaculture in Southeast Asia.
SEAFDEC was commended for its preliminary results on stock assessments of Indo-Pacific king mackerel and narrow-barred Spanish mackerel. The council recommended further discussions among ASEAN member states before endorsing the final results to ensure holistic management of these commercially important species.
