SC to raffle off ABS-CBN petition next week

THE Supreme Court will raffle off next week media giant ABS-CBN’s petition to set aside the closure order issued by the National Telecommunications Commission .

Hosaka confirmed that the high tribunal received on Thursday the petition for certiorari and prohibition filed by ABS-CBN Corporation against the NTC in a bid to reopen its regular television and radio programming operations, which were shut down on May 5, a day after the network’s franchise lapsed. In its 46-page petition, ABS-CBN asked the High Court to set aside the NTC’s order and issue a permanent injunction against its implementation, saying that the regulatory body committed grave abuse of discretion when it issued the controversial cease and decease order.

The network also pointed out that its closure would jeopardize the livelihood of its more than 11,000 employees and their families.
