Owner of unidentified multi-unit residential building also received a 12-month probation order
The owner of a multi-unit residential building in the Sault has been fined $95,000 for various offences under the Ontario Fire Code.
According to the Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services, the unnamed owner was charged on Wednesday, June 7. In addition to the hefty fine, the building owner also received a 12-month probation order. “SSMFS fire prevention officers enforce the Ontario Fire Code on a daily basis," stated deputy chief Naomi Thibault in a news release. “As we see in this case, the fines can become substantive when corrective action is not taken”.
The fire service did not provide details on the alleged fire code violations, but said smoke and carbon monoxide alarms need to be properly located and functioning.
