Sault Ste. Marie 4 is four hectares in size and is 500 metres north of Lauzon Lake
One of two new northeastern Ontario forest fires confirmed earlier today is east of the Sault, fire officials say.
The other new fire confirmed today is Hearst 5, at 90 hectares. It's 36 km south of Highway 11 and just north of Macvicar Creek. Fires of note include Sudbury 17 which began June 4, is not yet under control and is 1,024 hectares. Smoke from the fire is affecting air quality in Elliot Lake, town officials said.
