PRESIDENT Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has ordered the Department of Social Welfare and Development to distribute cash assistance to sari-sari stores affected by the implementation of mandatory price cap on rice.

The Office of the President said the DSWD will conduct the distribution of cash aid from September 25 to 29. The DSWD will coordinate with the Department of Trade and Industry for the identification of the beneficiaries who are small rice retailers. Amid the soaring prices of rice, which Marcos attributed to hoarding and smuggling, he implemented a P41 per kilo price ceiling on regular milled rice and the P45 per kilo price cap on well-milled through the issuance of Executive Order 39.

Earlier, the DSWD said it has already released P92.415 million worth of financial assistance to 6,161 out of the 8,390-target micro and small rice retailers affected by the implementation of the order.SunStar website welcomes friendly debate, but comments posted on this site do not necessarily reflect the views of the SunStar management and its affiliates.
