VICE President Sara Duterte appeared in person at the Department of Justice on Friday to submit her response to a complaint by the National Bureau of Investigation over her supposed threat to kill President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. The complaint accuses Duterte of inciting to sedition and making grave threats, stemming from a February 2025 speech in which she allegedly declared, 'Kill Marcos!' Her camp maintains the remark was 'maliciously taken out of context.
'The preliminary investigation is a critical stage in the criminal justice process,' the department said. 'Prosecutors will meticulously evaluate the evidence to determine whether prima facie evidence with reasonable certainty of conviction exists.' The DOJ reaffirmed its commitment to impartiality, declaring that 'accountability will prevail regardless of the respondent's identity.' The NBI has until May 16 to file its reply to Duterte's affidavit.
