Filipinas midfielder Sara Eggesvik is taking her decade of professional football experience to Australia after signing with Western United FC in the Liberty A-League Women.
The 27-year-old Eggesvik etched her name in Philippine sports history after providing the brilliant cross to Sarina Bolden’s goal in the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup. With the goal, the Philippines highlighted its debut at the grandest football showpiece with a maiden victory over higher-ranked tournament co-host New Zealand.
“I’ve only heard good things about the Club and the way they play – it’s an exciting way of playing football and something I hope I can contribute to. They’ve also had a really good two years in the A-League, so I would like to keep that up this year, too,” she added. Western is looking to translate some promising momentum from its campaign last year with the arrival of Eggesvik into the new season after falling to Bolden's Newcastle Jets in the quarterfinal and finishing in the top three of the final standings.
