The chief of police of San Miguel, Bulacan was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in a police operation conducted on Saturday night.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Marlon Serna suffered from a gunshot wound on the head after two alleged thieves fired shots in San Ildefonso, Bulacan, according to a report by Luisito Santos on Super Radyo dzBB on Sunday.

Bulacan Police Office provincial director Police Colonel Renie Arnedo said the San Miguel Police received a report at around 9 p.m. about a robbery incident in Barangay San Juan. San Miguel Police then initiated a follow-up operation and investigation headed by Serna to identify and arrest the suspects.

The two suspects onboard a motorcycle were spotted in Buhol na Mangga, San Ildefonso, but instead of coordinating with the police, they allegedly opened fire and hit Serna.Aside from Serna, a 17-year-old male was also wounded due to the incident.—Giselle Ombay/KG, GMA Integrated News
