Contributed photo.According to the Canadian Hurricane Centre’s final assessment of post-tropical storm Fiona, satellite information and reports from a buoy over Banquereau Bank showed wave heights averaging 12 to 15 metres with peak waves as high as 30 meters.In the Gulf of St. Lawrence, the largest waves were four to six meters with peak waves of 16 metres.
“By Friday, our people had secured all small vessels at local wharves with additional lines and fenders deployed. “They put all the wind and wave forces the farm site has got to withstand in a storm state and that tells us what the breaking strength or load factor is to verify the safety standard to meet.”
“We take great care to ensure every piece of equipment is strength tested and certified for use and we track wear and replace pieces on an ongoing basis. Every fish farm is custom engineered for its specific site location.”
