Albay 2nd district Rep. Joey Salceda said he will “not be surprised” if the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) in Metro Manila will be extended until May 15.
In an interview with DZRH on Wednesday, Salceda said it is likely that the ECQ in Metro Manila will be extended if residents continue to disobey safety measures imposed by the government, such as social distancing.Salceda, chairman of the House ways and means committee, also said there are more people violating than complying with the government’s anti-COVID initiatives.
“Ang ibig kong sabihin ‘yung commitment ninyo to social distancing…di naman natin taimtim na ginagawa,” he said. “Doon sa Wuhan [China], di ka talaga makakalabas ng bahay, i-de-deliver lang sa iyo ang pagkain at aantayin mo. Dito sa atin ginagamit lang natin [ang quarantine pass] para lang makabili lang po ng Chippy,” he added.
But if it were up to Salceda, the lawmaker said he wants the ECQ to end for the sake of the country’s economy.“Kayo ang pumapatay sa matatanda natin. ‘Di niyo nararamdaman kayo ang nagdadala ng mikrobyo pauwi sa bahay niyo,” he said.
