According to the official Facebook page of the Board of Trustees of The Sabah Parks, Malaysia,On 7 April 2023, between 2.30am to 7am, the temperature of Mount Kinabalu reached -3 to -5 degrees with 17 per cent of humidity, causing the cold weather incident to happen. The freezing occurred from the complex area of Panalaban Sub Station, Taman Kinabalu to Kinabalu peak area.
According to the pictures taken by Sahrul Bianus, Linus Ladsou, Ballery, Pollely Roipon, and shared by Sabah Parks, ice and snow are found on the fence, stairs, and stones of the mountain. Sabah Parks also urged climbers to be cautious as the granite surface is slippery due to ice freezing.
